چکیده

The formation of nlonolithie and transparent transition metal containing aerogel m~~ been achieved through co:,perative interactions of high molecular weight fictionalized carbohydrates and silica p .ecursors, which strong]y influence the kinetics of gelation. After initial gelation, subsequen: modification of the ligating character of the system, coordination of the group VIII metal ions, and supercritical extraction afford the aerogels. The structures at the nanophase Ievel have beer probed by photon and electron transmission and neutron scattering techniques to he!p elucida. e the basis for structural integrity together with the small entity sizes” that permit transparency i;! the visibIe range. They dso help with understanding the chemical reactivities of the metal-cl: ntaining sites in these very high surface area materials. These resuks are discussed in connectic: I with new reaction studies.

Synthesis and textural characteristics of organic aerogels, transition-metal-containing organic aerogels and their carbonized derivatives

Four organic aerogels were prepared by the sol-gel method from polymerization of resorcinol with formaldehyde catalyzed by Na CO . These aerogels were further pyrolyzed in N in order to obtain their corresponding carbon aerogels, 2 3 2 and after that activated with either steam or CO to obtain activated carbon aerogels. Another series of organic aerogels and 2 their pyrolyzed and activated deri...

Synthesis of Mn3O4-Based Aerogels and Their Lithium-Storage Abilities

Mn3O4 aerogels and their graphene nanosheet (GN) composite aerogels were synthesized by a simple supercritical-ethanol process. In the process, supercritical ethanol acted as a reductant to reduce graphene oxide and MnO2 gels simultaneously. The synthesized aerogels consisted of 10-20 nm Mn3O4 nanocrystallites, with BET-specific surface areas around 60 m(2)/g. The performance of the aerogels as...

Adsorption and Desorption Isotherms Of Desiccants for Dehumidification Applications: Silica Aerogels and Silica Aerogel Coatings on Metal Foams

Silica aerogels are frequently employed as solid desiccants in enthalpy wheels for dehumidifying the supply stream in air-conditioning systems. These desiccant materials possess good moisture adsorption and desorption characteristics due to their porous structure. Analysis of adsorption and desorption isotherms is critical for performance characterization and is often performed to evaluate the ...

Solvothermal-induced self-assembly of Fe2O3/GS aerogels for high Li-storage and excellent stability.

A novel solvothermal-induced self-assembly approach, using colloid sol as precursor, is developed to construct monolithic 3D metal oxide/GS (graphene sheets) aerogels. During the solvothermal process, graphene oxide (GO) is highly reduced to GS and self-assembles into 3D macroscopic hydrogels, accompanying with in situ transformation of colloid sol to metal oxides. As a proof of concept, Fe2 O3...

Porous semiconducting gels and aerogels from chalcogenide clusters.

Inorganic porous materials are being developed for use as molecular sieves, ion exchangers, and catalysts, but most are oxides. We show that various sulfide and selenide clusters, when bound to metal ions, yield gels having porous frameworks. These gels are transformed to aerogels after supercritical drying with carbon dioxide. The aerogels have high internal surface area (up to 327 square mete...
